So, I'm a college graduate, i work in the mall and i sell stuff; computers to be exact. Yesterday was Morehouse's Homecoming, i have yet to attend a football game more or less a homecoming game. Thgere are much more interesting events goin on in the "periphery", and by periphery i mean the tailgate. Yesterday was no exception. Homecoming is by far the best party all year. For starters, it's outside. 2) it's insane, the number of people walking around anebriated and educated 3) prime job hunting, lots of alumni looking to hire bright eyed neo-alumni. if you're in a frat your chances are even higher. My friend Averick('05) is the athletic director for the Houston Dynamo, MLS Champs in '06. He let me know they are currently looking for a graphic designer... Nice. i'm definitely going to pursue that. Couple other things popped up as well people talking about real estate and other services that go along with that. Always good to meet and talk to people that are self employed. Self employment is a SKILL; ponder that.
I saw a bunch of people and didn't take pictures. Certain events i feel obliged not to take pictures. I went to cali, i didn't want to take my camera, sometimes it's more trouble than it's worth. Sometimes i feel like when you step back, ask people to pose and look at the camera it takes a little something away from the moment that everyone was just enjoying. Trust me on this i've probably been in every situation you can imagine, with a camera. Right now i just dont feel it's necessary, honestly i like to craft photos, not just snap them. Point. Shoot. Point. Shoot thats not why i take photos. it's so that i can slow the moment down and caputre something, exaggerate something, that wasn't there before. The camera used be to a social tool for me so i could exctract my self from the situation but still be in it. I could hide behind the camera and watch everyone else. Now i'd just rather be there.
yes i went to cali. it was fun. i learned that apple is only going to hire me when 1) i have more relevant experience and especially engineering if i want to do HCI 2) if i work relentlessly in the stores for the same if not more amount of time. I am going to stay at apple atleast untill the spring so i can apply for the ARC program and get sent over there for a summer internship type deal. ARC is kind of a retail to corporate internship apple does internally. If i dont make that then i know it's time to move on. I've just been offered a temporary position assisting the Producer of a new reality TV that has some big names behind it. The show is about kids in a marching band in an atlanta high school and will be taping for the next 6 weeks.
The one good thing about the apple store is the number of creative and technical professionals that come into my job everyday is astounding and more and more come in asking to talk to me which is a good thing. If i'm not working somewhere else within a year then i've been wasting this high profile opportunity. Atleast 5 people at the tail gate came up to me and called me "the apple guy"... i hate retail.
i sell ideas, not shit...
