Flyers

Flyers are a really interesting and fundamental part of marketing. Flyers are generally used at events to promote for events where as people use business cards to promote their organization, business, website etc. Duh right? you run into someone and they say, "hey we've got this going on then, here a flyer" and you're like "is this your party?" and "they are like yeah check me out "and hand you a business card.

Pretty typical and generally effective, but i have been thinking about the effectiveness of that situation. The person has two pieces of glossy paper to keep track of; the business card, damn near indefinitely and the flyer, until the day of the event.

For fly.paper as well as Dirty Boys Social Club i want to create flyers for the whole concept, something people can put on their wall, or corkboard or whatever in their room and hang onto it. Igo to City of Ink tattoo and they have informational type flyers sitting on the table for people to take. So i take them and anytime people ask me about my work or where i go i pull out a flyer and point them to city of ink. Flyers like this, we'll call this informational flyers, have a really high hand to hand rate because there is no time limit to when this fresh piece of information will spoil and once we get the information off the front and/or back we are free to hand it off. You know like when someone comes in your room and sees some cool stuff, they always wanna take it, take all the informational flyers you want.

Event flyers are a little harder to pass along because most of the time we hold onto them to remember when and where the event is. As soon as someone takes your copy you have to start remembering and you can't count on people's memories. At the very least, my memory.

With informational flyers it's important to have information that has a time limit, on the website. So people can go to your website and see on the front page when your next event is, where it is, who is gonna be there and what it's about (the concept). If you have a website, and pretty much everyone does, then you'll save a little money by having time sensitive info on your site so you don't have to reprint flyers everytime you do an event. But then again you can still print all the flyers you want and have a nice little catalog of flyers so you can switch the visual statement you and making and keep people guessing and intrigued by your brand, but thats another story.
